alternator shuts off @ 190 degrees???
I have a strange problem. Im running dual factory electric fans on a manual toggle switch. I used to have one fan running off the ECU and the other fan (that don't turn on until 210-220) on a toggle. This worked fine until both fans stopped working altogether. I then cut the wires supporting both fans and capped the ends so they wouldn't short, and wired them to a switch w/ relay. I know i went about this the wrong way, but i was uninformed at the time. It will be a big hassle to rewire back to stock. The fans keep the car below 200 all the time. My problem is the alternator shuts off when i go over 190 degrees. I replaced the alternator and connector and same thing. My volts drop from 13 to 9 at this point, and if i let the car idle and cool, the volts come back after the car hits less than 190. I unplugged the thermo sensor to no avail..... Anyone know whats going on????
Could i get my PROM reflashed to fix this? I have a custom chip thaty TPIS will reprogram for a fee. Can i just tell the alternator to stay on all the time somehow??

Your chip doesn't have anything to do with the Alternator...if there's any corellation that I see, could be, just maybe, kinda,sorta...there's a appx 190 turn on of some device controlled by the chip (maybe original promary fan???) and that particular wire is shorted to ground...personally I'd take the time to go over the wiring that was modified, get it right and go from there.

i figured it out. The simplicity was overlooked. When i hooked the fans up to the manual toggle, i took out the fuse thinking it could cause problems. I replaced it and made sure the cut off wires were capped. Now it works fine
