Stumped

Hey guys,

I have a 1992 Camaro RS 305 tbi 5spd. When I crank it up the idle fluctuates or "hunts" if you will from 1k, then drops to 200, comes close to cutting off, then idles back up. This process goes away somewhat after I've driven it (the hunting is miniscule, but still there, both in open and closed loop).

So far, I have replaced the MAP sensor, IAC motor, the Coolant Temp sensor. I checked vaccuum and it seems to be around 20 when its kind of steady idle, but drops when the idle drops, etc. I've checked the PCV and it works like a charm.

My question is what to do next. Should i go about replacing the O2 sensor? or? I am stumped.

Thanks,
Azarel

Update:

I've been working with a local GM guy and we've located a vaccuum leak behind the heater control panel. That seems to be the source of the problem. I'm going to order a new unit from GM and replace it and see if that stops the vaccuum leak and the bad idle altogether.

Az.

Another possible and fairly common cause is a worn throttle shaft or loose throttle plates.
