fuel line replacement
fuel line replacement
The fuel pump went out on my 89 305 tbi rs. The problem is all 4 fuel lines are badly rotted, and need replaced as well.
The fuel filter hasnt been changed in forever, because the nut was rounded off, and the line being so rusted. The line that goes from the fuel filter to the tank is rusted as well. Does that mean i need a new sending unit?
As for the lines, i'm wondering if i can just bend those up myself. What kind of flare do they use? do parts stores even stock line that size? I looked around the net and the pre-bent replacements are upwards of $100 per line, i'm not totally comfortable paying that much just for a single line.

If your pump is gone and everything else is toast, well, were it me I'd probably replace everything while I was down there.
Yes you can bend it yourself, not sure of the correct type of flair, but I've used a double when making my own. Why not try and find some salvageable ones in the boneyard?

Call a boneyard somewhere else (I've had stuff shipped from boneyards out of state before), or bug someone on ebay that's parting out a car, or even post in the -wanted- section. It might be work, but bending a full system line as your first try isn't exactly fun either.

 What's the diff.? If you're gonna bend it you have to pull it apart. Mayby pull the one in the engine compartment as it's easiest to get to. Just don't do what sooo many turdgenners do and use compression fittings.

I hope you took some of that hose and smacked him upside the head with it.
Man, that would be one helluva reeadneck looking thirdgen... hose hanging and dragging down... -shudder-... smack that 'mechanic' once for me too.
