Rear main leaking? Is this common?
Rear main leaking? Is this common?
I heard that 1 piece rear mains don't usually leak compared to 2 piece. I have 88 GTA with around 84xxx miles on it. I just took off the flywheel cover and noticed that there is a drop of oil getting ready to fall. Now the underside of the car from the rear of the oil pain to the end of the tranny pan has oil all over it. I guess from driving and the wind blowing it back, but it seems pretty bad. Now I found that on the rear two bolts on my intake manifold (passenger side) was leaking a little oil but I don't think it would be enough to run down the rear of the engine block and practically cover everything to the rear of the tranny pan. If it is a rear main how serious can this be. Should I just keep an eye on the oil level and not worry about it? I am putting a new motor in this winter, will it be alright till then, and finally should I quit drag racing the car?

you need to figure out where it's coming from, not just where you see it at, could be rear of the intake or the oil sender, as well as the rear main seal. the 1 piece usually don't leak like the 2 piece do.

Thats what I heard is that the 1 pieces are not prone to leaking. I took the two rear intake bolts out and but some thread sealer on them, hopefully this will stop it, or slow it down.
