crazy oil pressure gauge

When the car is idling, the oil pressure reads under 30, but as soon as I touch the gas, the needle shoots up and goes past 60, like it's maxed out. So whenever I'm driving around the gauge is pegged past 60 - do you think the sender is just bad? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

When I broke in the cam on my 388 the oil psi pegged at 40, asked the builder about it, and he said to change the oil filter, which I had to do anyway, problem solved.
Problably due to a weak filter bypass valve spring, not good because unfiltered oil is getting into the engine.
