Running rich

Hey i have a 92rs just replaced the motor still 305TBI,K&N,Helix power tower(tbi spacer),flowmasters,no cat(piped over),street&performance elec. chip,open element air cleaner,removed hood seals.

my question is what could be making my car run rich i can smell it in the exaust and how can i fix it, also my SES light comes on but i don't have a code reader thing. can ya help me out

Your mixture is calculated based on the input from various sensors. If you just put a new engine in, it's possible one of the sensors wasn't reconnected or not snug. You should check for error codes as this will help you find the problem. If you check the FAQ section (near the bottom) there's a how-to (you don't need a scanner) and list of error codes. Happy troubleshooting!
