reinstalling back the alternator
Hello everyone, my project is almost done that i need one more thing is that how the heck do i install my alternator back? i took out the smog pump and i mounted the alternator back but there is this black wire that connects to the negative terminal on the battery and i don't know where to put it on the alternator. Do you guys have any idea where that wire goes??
BTWBTW, does anyone have close up of the area where the alternator is supposed to be in a 87 iroc?
thanks

There isn't a wire running from the alternator to the negative post on the battery... dunno how the v-belts are setup, but that should have a CS-120 style alternator on it still, which would mean it would have a weatherpack connector that plugs in (probably 3 wires), and the output wire (ring terminal). The output wire will either go to the positive battery terminal, or, more likely on that year, a positive battery junction. Someone with a similar car will have to give more specifics if needed.

Yeah its a V-belt setup, the 2 connectors are fine with the alternator but i don't know where the negative battery cable should be connected to. i am having trouble with the negative cable that connects to the positive terminal on the battery

I think yuo're confusing some of us.
Negative terminal does not connect to positive on the battery.
Positive on the battery goes to the starter
Negative on the battery goes to the engine block...on my Serp setup (89) it goes to the Alternator bracket, IIRC.

Oh i am sorry
yeah so the negative cable that connects to my negative terminal of the battery just connects to the bracket on the alternator? i have a bracket thats on the bottom of the alternator that used to connect to the smog pump so i just put that on the bracket and thats it?
BTW: Thanks this is a good website, i am also on iroczone.com
