Cooling Question

Hi guys, I have a question, Im having problems with the engine running hot, its never boiling over, but the needle always indicates it over 220, I have a 1991 RS with a 305 TBI. I have changed the radiator, thermostat, radiator cap and some hoses and the water pump was changed yesterday. I am still running hot, im almost about to give up, anyone have suggestions or know any good Chevy mechanics in the fairfax virginia area, I just 400 bux for nothing at this one shop and am running low on patience with the car, thnx!! :confused

welcome to thirdgen.org, see if the radiator has leaves and stuff blocking it between the ac condenser and the radiator ,make sure the air dam is intact and directing air up into the radiator. you ought to check for leaks with a preaasue tester and if all that fails to solve your problem try having the radiator boiled out and flow tested.

Any mods to the car?

What about the air dam under the car? If that is gone then the car will heat up.

Is the car hot always, or just when you are at a stop light?

the car has no mods, it runs hot all the time, I hear the fan kick in, so its not the fan. The mechanic said there was something he had to pull out of a hose, im lost on what it could be, Im gonna see him mon to find a solution

Make sure that your lower radiadtor hose is not colapsing. Mine has a coil spring inserted into it, to help prevent from colapsing.

Is it always running hot, like down the highway or just in traffic? I would make sure the plastic air dam is there like gruveb said. That will make you heat up a lot.

Check to make sure the air dam is still inplace and thathere is no air in the system. My rommate had trouble and chenged everylast cooling piece on his 95TA only to discover that it was a blown head gasket. These problems are tough to figure out sometimes.
