I have a 88 iroc with a 305 TPI 5-speed. Anyways I was wondering what would be the best cam for me to buy. (What degrees, Int. Ex.) And how long you think it would take for an average Bob to put it in.

Call comp and ask if they have an XE256H for a ECM combination. It will use an lsa of 112 or 114 instead of the 110 normally used.

I hate all comp cams grinds. TPI Cars (with a few exceptions)don't seem to run that well with them. Project Magnu TPI part 1? Comp Cams. I don't think comp cams, because they are such a large company, have the resources to dedicate to manufacturing a superior TPI grind. The premise behind tuned port injection is the ability of the system to take advantage of certain resonating pulses that are a by product of the combustion cycle. The runners are designed to take advantage of these pulses to promote cylinder filling at a certain RPM range. This RPM range is defined, in part, by the camshaft. Now, it either takes a rocket scientist or a whole lot of development time to hit the sweet spot with this combination. I don't think Comp Cams has much of either.
My reccomendation:
SLP 206/212
Possibly lingenfelter's 211/219 depending on your cars mods
Both have an LSA of 112, and will probably work with your existing MAF setup.
Not a lot of choices out there for a 305. I would take the 300 dollars and buy a 87+ 350 long block from a junk yard, or buy one for an L98 long Block from SDPC2000.com for $1100, take a weekend, and throw it in your car.
Good luck with that
