What's the top speed of--

A stock 87 LG4 T/A combo?????

The fastest I could get my car to go was about 150kph. The engine would red line after that.. is this normal? It felt like if it had one more gear, it would go a lot faster..

Mr. J,

I would think at least 170 would be right, even for an ELGEE-Four.

For those of you who didn't catch the comparison right away, maybe this handy little utility would help:

if your gears allow you to reach a higher maximum speed at redline than maybe the torque convertor is slipping like hell...but most likely you are running out of gearing...what is your rear end ratio, tire size, tranny and redline? With that we can calculate your topspeed

Not to pi$$ on everyones parade but a top speed calculator is only a very rough estimate. Two main factors are left out total vehicle weight and aero dynamics.

If you have the automatic 700r4 tranny you probably can't get the 3-4th shift at WOT. When you hit that speed at the red line, let off to about half throttle and see if it shifts. I'm guessing you are hitting your top speed in 3rd gear, not overdrive.

350 with stealth intake, holley carb, 470 lift cam. 700r4 with .5 boost valve, vette servo, tci lock-up kit, B&M megashifter. Richmond 3.73 gears, powertrax locker, timkin bearings, synthetic lube. Custom 3 inch single into 2 2.5 pipes. 1 1/2 drop springs, 1 5/16 solid front sway bar, 1 inch rear bar, custom subframe connectors, custom LCA relocation brackets. Kobel ground FX, currant red metallic paint. Lots of other stuff...

Cody...rather than apologizing for pi$$ing on peoples parades why not offer up a solution. I was not saying that he would have his actual top speed just his theoritical which would guide him. If his calculated top speed is 200 KM/h and his is only pulling 150 KM/h then there is something obviously wrong because at those speeds aerodynamics and weight would not have such a huge impact, my estimate he should be within 10-15 KM/h...if he was uproaching speeds over 200 KM/h then these factors would have much greater impact...and the faster he went the more they'd factor in...anywayz stop trying to be such a smart-alec

Right and wrong. Aerodynamic drag, rolling resistance and grade, the latter two of which are impacted heavily by weight, are the factors a vehicle must overcome to increase it's speed.

However, he should be somewhere above 50km/h (my jacked up Blazer is faster than that, it weighs more and has a much higher drag coefficient) as you stated.

82 has probably hit the nail on the head.
