please help, fast

ok, a few days ago i took my MSD 6A off and the car has run fine. Well tonight i let my friend borrow my car to take his girlfriend to homecoming and when i got it back tongiht he said that it was stumbling in high rpms. Well i started driving it, and at anything above 3,000 rpms it seems to cut out, but once you get below 3,000 it seems fine. He said that if you tap on the distributor cap that it would go away for awhile. The cap hasn't been changed in 3 years and sat in all kinds of weather for 2 years. Could that be it? loose connection? i need help soon cause i don't have the money to fix it if it's expensive and i want to get it taken care of. Thanks for your help!!!!

dude, change the cap! and rotor too while your at it. its an easy...$20 dollar deal.(unless you want to go heavy duty name brand)but your auto store "exclusive" should be enough. a...dare i say..."generic cap" and rotor usually is about $17 bucks, its simple to change too...just two screws...just make sure you put the wires back in the right order.
