Black smoke at High RPM in Neutral
I have a 88 GTA with the 350TPI. When i Bought the car it always blew black smoke at full throttle due to a bad injector. I replaced all the injectors with new and removed the smog pump, removed the converter, installed a Flowmaster Cat-back system, and installed Platinum plugs. I also inspected all the vaccum lines and installed a brand new EGR. It no longer smokes at full throttle and runs alot smoother now. My problem is if i sit in traffic and nail the throttle it will blow out all kinds of pitch black carbon smoke. Its kinda embarrasing if you know what i mean. Is there a way to prevent this or is it normal???

Have you checked the O2 reading to see if it says you're running rich. Another question is, did you get the same size injectors?

The injector size is Accel #24. I tried to hook up my Genesys scanner to the car and whenever I attempt to retrieve live data the scanner says it looses communication with the ECM. Not sure if this is a problem or not. The other problems im seeing with the car is a somewhat high idle while in gear, and doesnt want to pull hard to redline. The engine seems to fight itself over 4500RPM.
I assume most of these problems are related in one way or another. Possibly a weak coil....

If I remember correctly the stock injectors were rated for 22 pounds. That is what the computer is programmed for if you still have the stock program. When you installed the #24 pound injectors you should have had the computer reprogrammed to the 24 pound injectors. That is why you are running rich.

The lack of power could indeed be a bad coil, but when was the last time you tuned the car up, changed the fuel filter and checked the timing? 1989GTATransam is thinking along the same lines as me. The computer might need to be reprogrammed for the bigger injectors. I would also investigate to see why the connection between you data retrieving program and the E.C.M. fails to retrieve the data. This could be a big part of the problem.
