Recall question
Recall question
Does anyone know if the recall for the 91/92 camaro/firebirds is still in effect. mostly the one about the gastank.
NHTSA Campaign Number : 94V077000
Year : 1992
Vehicle Make : CHEVROLET
Vehicle Model : CAMARO
Summary :
THE FUEL FILLER NECK SOLDER JOINT CAN DEVELOP CRACKS OR PIN HOLE LEAKS, WHICH
DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY." THE CRACKS AND
HOLES CAN ALLOW FUEL VAPOR AND FUEL LEAKAGE.
CONSEQUENCE OF NON-COMPLIANCE: GASOLINE VAPORS AND FUEL LEAKS CAN RESULT IN A
FIRE IF EXPOSED TO A SOURCE OF IGNITION.
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY AND REPLACE THOSE WHICH EXHIBIT THE
CRACKS OR PIN HOLE LEAKS.
SYSTEM: FUEL; FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY; PIPE; FILLER; NECK; FMVSS 301.
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES.

a recall is a recall...if something is unsafe it will continue to be unsafe and gm realises this, or maybe that was just the dealership i worked at's motto but i doubt it cause they are cheap. anyway my point is at least at this dealership (unlikely that it is their policy and not gm's) a recall is good forever.

My '86 Firebird needed the seatbelt job done... Had to wait about 1 week for them to get the parts in but they took care of it no problem.

[EDIT] A recall is a recall. They *must* do the required work for *free* or have your lawyer remind them of this. Try phoning another dealer's service dept and giving them the VIN # to see if there are outstanding recalls. If there are, they can give you the campaign numbers. I think the only way they can refuse is if the car isn't safe to put on a hoist (in which case, a fuel leak is the least of your worries

The Pontiac dealership wouldn't inspect my car for free because a previous owner had already had the tank replaced under the recall.
Turns out I have a defective gas cap that is allowing fuel to spill out when tank is full, when I take left turns and is also venting fumes.
