how do i put in my timing chain

hi,i have a 84 camaro berlinetta i need to know how to put the chain in my 305 5.0
i have tryed puting 1 in already and i guess i put it in wrong b/c the car drove like it was waaaaaaaaaaay off time the car would go 0 to 50 in a month!it shifted wrong and had hard cold starts.i try 2 tranny swaps and still the same problem,checked the t.v cable and still same problem.it all started as soon as i put the chain in so its gotta be that damn chain.so i tore down the front of the motor and am waiting for your asistance to put this chain in right!!!so please help!
and please try not to be so veg b/c im a rookie! thank you Andre jackson

It's very straightforward. If the dots on the gears line up then it's installed correctly. If they dont, take the cam bolts out and move the cam gear accordingly to line it up with the dot on the crank gear.

i'm going to make an assumption based on what you've said here. you're doing this with out the aid of a repair manual correct? go buy one it tells you everything you need to know and even has pics and diagrams in it to make it easier to understand.
