What would be a good price for a shop to put install a different speedo gear?

I'll say at least $100. You would probably have to remove the tranny. I'm not sure which gear requires removal of the tail-shaft, but if that happens then the price goes up.

Either do it yourself or wait until you need to get other work done (clutch, etc) before you do the mod.

You do have to remove tail shaft which isn't that hard. You can do it yourself. There is a tech article on this board somewhere for it. Just be careful of the little spring clip that holds the gear in place on the output shaft. I broke mine (despite the warnings in that tech article) and had to get one from a local tranny shop. Essentially remove drive shaft and torque arm. then take the 4 bolts out of the tail shaft housing and remove it. Change gears and reinstall. Took me all of an hour to do.

What kind of difference did you notice from gears. Just wondering if modification is worthwhile.
