Is this a bad thing? (transmission ?)

So I was on my way home from a night w/ my GF, and I see this car parked on the side of the highway. As I get closer they shine a f*cking flashlight in my eyes and blind me, and there is also a semi coming at me, and then all of a sudden, I run over something that damn near bounces me off the road. I thought it was kids throwin sh*t in the middle of the road, so when I got back to town I found the local cop and he informed me that I had ran over a dead deer. And so I go back and look, and sure enough, there is blood all down the side of my car. So after leaving from talking w/ the cop, I notice that in first and third, when I give it gas, the stick shift lifts up and down, and I'm not talkin bout a little bit, im talkin bout like this much in 1st:
<-------------------------------------------->
and bout this much in 3rd:
<---------------->
I'm talkin like 1st gear stretches the boot tight. Now is this a very bad thing and can someone tell me what the f*ck that deer did to my car. I hope to G O D that it's nothing major cuz that could seriously kill my paint job ideas. Any help is appricative, and sorry to write a book bout what happened before tellin you what was wrong.

You may have just busted the tranny mount. From what you described,personally I would check that first.

You'd probably get more responses if you posted this in the transmission forum!

Rubber tranny mounts are about $10. Poly mounts are about $20. Very easy to change. Just jack the car up, support it with jackstands, support the tranny with a tranny jack or your jack with a board between it and the tranny, drop the tranny crossmember, unbolt the old tranny mount, and put the new one on. Then bolt it all up and let the car down again. Shouldn't take more than 30 minutes max including the time to raise and lower the car.

Actually u dont even have to unbolt the cross member.... Just loosen the center bolt and jack the tranny up an inch or 2....

Well, my dad INSISTED that we take it to a mechanic so it gets done professionally and since it sounded like it would be so cheap to do then no reason not to let them do it. but THEN I get a call from my dad telling me that the mount itself is gonna cost something like $280 w/o labor and he went ahead and told the mechanic to do it. I was pissed. He better be helping pay for that shi*t. Apperently the mechanic couldn't find an aftermarket mount and had to order directly from GM. He called bout 4 salvage yards as well and couldn't find a mount for a v-6 5-speed. I don't know what to think about that. We've been goin to him for a while and was always cheaper than most, but this time, sh*t man, I think I'm gettin it up the azz.

A tranny mount shouldve cost you like $25 or so, and FWIW the trans mounts are interchangable between the V8 & V6 T-5's

Are you absolutely, positively positive that they are interchangeable? If so I will call him and tell him to look agian and tell him that they're interchangeable.

To help you in your arguement against your dad, show him this:
Go to www.summitracing.com Than, search for this part number: ENS-3-1108B

GM: All rear wheel drive cars and trucks, blue, transmission mount Bushing set, transmission mount, blue

Price: $20.95

Do the shop a favor and put in a complaint against them to the Better Business Bureau. While one complaint doesn't ammount to much, you aren't the only one to get reamed by them, and not the only one to find out how bad. Those complaints add up over time and can eventually screw them over. If you manage to find an honest shop, call the BBB and register a compliment to help them out. If everyone did this, there would be a lot more honest mechanics and the industry would have a better reputation as a whole.

Seeing this kind of S*&% go on p!$$es me off. That is why I am so glad I can do just about everything myself to my own car. $30 or $40 wouldn't be so bad.But over $200 for a tranny mount and your dad gave the mechanic the go ahead!?!? That is just too insane.I'd be kicking my dad's butt.
Anyway,sorry to hear about it.Better luck next time.I would suggest more research when something happens so this kind of thing doesn't happen again.

Thats why i dont have shops do any work. I brought my girlfriends are in for an oil change and quess what they "found". They said the hole for the bolt that screws into the oil pan was stripped, so they wanted to get a new bolt, pan and gasket + labor. They wanted over $300. Ofcourse all the parts are brand new from GM. I told my dad and he said to go and get a self taping bolt to redo the threads on the pan. Cost like $5 took less then 5 min. The bad part is, after we got her car back from the simple oil change (and no other work) alot of stuff starting going bad. I still think they did something to her car.

1: mount part #14106633 $195.78
freight $6.08
labor $33.60
tax $13.88
TOTAL: $249.26

I need to ask where all he looked for a mount at. That really pisses me off. But what ya gonna do, another one of lifes many (and sh*tty) learning experiences.

The moral of this story: Even if you can't do it youself, at least find the parts yourself, or else you'll end up with lots of air in your wallet.

I checked on gmpartsdirect.com and there price is $124. You must have broken something else than the rubber mount.

I got this:

GM list:$217.54
GM Wholesale: $163.16
Our Price: $124.00

so he is right around in there w/ $195.78, he probably gets a little discount from the local GM dealer or somethin. Hell I dunno, I dont want to think bout it anymore, its givin me a headache, lol.
