speedo sticks, clicking noise when accelerating

speedo sticks, clicking noise when accelerating

i have and 86 WS6 trans am, my first qeustion is: just recently when i start my car and begin driving, my speedometer will stick in one spot for about 5 mins, whut could be casueing this?
my second question: when i accelerate i hear a clicking sound coming from the car, whut could this be?

Both could be caused by one problem. Even though you have a VSS on your car, the '86 model still uses a speedometer cable. The cable is either fraying in the housing or is damaged at an end. You can get a speedometer cable repair kit at many parts sources.

The ticking you are hearing could also be the cable wrapping up in the outer housing. Repair the cable first and see if the noise continues.

Incidentally, are you also getting a "SES" lamp on your dash? A code 24, possibly?

yeah i have this same problem, the tapping sound increases with the rpms. sometimes it goes away, sometimes its there, but it really bothers me. im going to check my speedo cable, is there any other possibilities?

i would say u need a new speedo gear or cable in your tranny and for the noise my best guess would be an exhaustleak somewhere. check the exhaust manifold and wehre it bolts onto the pipe and the y portion of the pipe. otherwise it might be a stuck lift or valve.

Thank *** I'm not the only person that stupid clicking sound is happening to! I've been meaning to check that speedo cable.......In my last car, I got a clicking sound, and it was the freeking water pump dying.
