dart iron eagle 180s?

Think these are good for a temporary(hold me off for a year or two)performance head?

it'd help to know what you have and what you want them to do for you.

I just wondering if they are a decent head that will add 20-30HP.In my stock heads the valves are really crusty from leaking valve seals and I cant really have the car out of comission for more than a weekend to clean them up then if their not flat have to mechine them and all the other stuff.Im stuck in the 13.9-14.0 range at the track so I think some new heads will help me out.The cam in now is L.480-.480 D210-220 lsa112.The 180 eagles have great I/E ratio 80% or higher for for lifts up to .500 so I would think they should be a pretty good match with my cam. What do you guys think?

I might be able to help you out. Look at my Signature. I bought these heads because I pulled a rocker stud on my 882's. The Car woke up. Granted, my camshaft is a 224/224, with .460'' lift, which is right where the heads perform best. After .450'', the heads hit a stall velocity. Lift specs at .400'' are 210cfm, and at .500'' 209 cfm. Now, the heads are great, and I ran a pretty good mph, (102)but I have what I consider to be a pretty big cam for my 350. This affects torque, and I want more torque. If I had to do it over again, I'd save my money and buy AFR's. The flow numbers are wicked. If you don't, after you bolt on another set of heads, you'll be wondering "what if I bought AFR's". They're a good investment. If you are stuck on cast iron, go with DART. I like my 180's, but I envy the flow numbers of the 200's.

I was looking at the 200s the intake flow is better than the 180s but exhaust flow of the 200s is less then the 180s.And the I/E ratio for the 200s is in the 70s vs the 180s I/E of 80s.I thinking of getting the 180s bare then adding manley street-flo valves to get some more flow from them.

FYI I dropped off a block and head at my machine shop yesterday, and they had a set of Dart Iron Eagle's, just the bare castings.

Pro's..the heads have the heartshaped combustion chambers, with the plug boss recessed in the chamber, not protruding into the chamber. Alsi, the intake runners looked well sized and shaped, flow path seemed good.

Pro/con: Looks like Dart machined out to remove intake valve shrouding...that good, but strangely enough, it looks like chmabers may not all be centered over the bore, reason I say this is not each chamber had the same mill work done to unshroud each valve...I/e some of the unshrouding was very pronounced, some just slightly.

Cons: casting flash up the wazoo, the exhaust ports were rougher than 80 grit sand papaer, as were the combustion chambers and intake runners. The intake runners will need a little casting line removalk as well (normal anyway for about any iron head).

So yes, there's probably a gain to be had just bolting them on, but there's a lot left in the heads (that I think is a "must do") that polishing can get you.

I was going to clean them up anyway if I were to get them.
