I was in autozone the other day and heard an announcement on the radio about if parked on a steep incline to use the E-brake of course, but mine doesn't work, but they also said to park the car in reverse. Would this be a good idea.

But for standards, often the reverse gear has a higher ratio than 1st and less prone to "rolling". But this was more appicable 20 years ago. Today's newer trannies often have steeper 1st gears, so you may be better off in 1st.
Having a working E Brake engaged further reduces tendency to roll along with turning your front wheels into the curb (based on direction of roll) if one's available.
Where I live, IF you car should accidentally roll down a hill, you can be "charged" if your E Brake was not engaged.

The only time I use my e-brake in my automatic car is when parked on a hill, so I don't load the tranny and have to pop it back into gear.

I apply the parking brake on all cars in any situation. I can't think of any compelling reason not to use it all the time as extra insurance other than pure laziness. Kinda like buckling the seatbelt to me.
Having a master cylinder fail before, I also am annoyed by people that don't tighten the parking brake periodically as you may REALLY need it one day

Using your parking brake also keeps the rear brakes adjusted properly. If you dont use it often enough the adjusters will probably seize up.
