OK well i this will probably get moved or deleted... but today my somewhat dream car since i was a kid turned out to be not what i thought... My grandpa finally let me take out his 71 Chevelle SS but it wasnt nearly as fast/powerfull as i thought... i mean its gott a 461 under the hood and a 373 rear end... but i stood on it and it barely took off... it didnt even light the tires up or nethin.. what could cause it to not have any power like this when i heard so many stories bout this car being uncontrollable??

 

If it sat for a long time, it will need new fuel. Give it a complete tune up, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc.
If the motor has a high lift cam, the valve springs may need to be changed. And last but not least, the carb should recieve a thorough cleaning.

If the engine was built beyond factory specs at all (even mildly) that combination should almost stand up on it's rears.

Im not sure how long it has been sittin... but all i know is my gramps is like 86 and drives his Caddy all the time so the Velle sits in the garage all the time... its a shame too cuz the car is sooo great... but ya im prob gonna work on it for him so that way i can take it out!!
