'86 TA WON'T START (cranks and cranks) electrical?

The photo shows the "Convenience Center" that swings down for access to the components. Why they ever called it "Convenient" I'll never know.
The blue box is the audible warnign system for headlights, key, and seat belt warning. The white box is a relay that operates the horn. The silver "can" is the hazard flasher. You should have found the turn signal flasher clipped to the underside of the dash when you accessed the "Convenience Center".
None of those items should prevent starting. There is no VATS system on your '86, so that isn't an issue.
There is a remote possibility that you blew a fuse when you were disturbing all the wiring under the dash. By the sound of it, you had a real bird's nest. Check all the fuses in teh panel and the ECM/fuel pump fuse near the battery:

Is your car carbed? I had my fuel pump die on me all of a sudden one day.
I just installed my new MSD HEI coil and drove for a few miles and then all of a sudden the car dies while I am driving.
I thought the my new coil went bad. Called my dad and had him bring my old coil to me, put it in and still no go. Bought a new dist cap, rotor, coil, and module.
Found out my mech. fuel pump just decided to die on my that day.
If you have TPI, then disregard this post, unless of course your intank pump died or relay went bad. If TPI, check to see if you have fuel pressure, also, you should hear the pump start up for a sec when you turn the key on.

I'd get rid of it... I cut mine out and well, needlessly to say, I can actually see the fuse box now. I like Bruce's suggestion to put a switch on the power wire that goes to the ECM. That way, if your in a "bad" area you can flip the switch and the car won't be going anywhere(unless they find the switch..)

I just had the same problem with my 88 tpi... after chasing down numerous suspicions, it turned out to be a bad ecm. If you have a friend with a a thirdgen tpi, swap in his ECM (use your own prom chip) and see if that does it. That way you don't have to test out my theory by buying one and hoping it fixes the problem.
