Whats it take to put LT1 heads on early block??

Hi guys, I keep finding LT1 complete engines in a local U pull it here ($100 for the whole motor with accessories, I just don't have the time to yank these though). I have a 1967 327 with a Holley Stealth ram multiport efi on it -- what would it take to use this block and intake with LT1 heads?

Modification. They were designed for a reverse coolant flow.

Is it just me, or does it really make more sense to just install the complete LT1 engine?

The LT1 head/intake thing is actually pretty easy. I paid $250 for heads/intake/injectors, and another $180 to modify the heads, $120 to modify intake (could be cheaper at a machine shop I'm sure, I sent away for it), $65 for remote t-stat, and another $30 or so on brass fittings. I didn't count the $85 fuel hoses because those depend on the setup and would be needed more than likely for an LT1 motor anyways.

That's $730 not including the gaskets and other miscellaneous stuff. Not terrible for a good set of heads and a nice intake. That includes all of my shipping expenses as well. I'll eventually send them away for a $1300 port job by Lloyd Eliott. $1300 for porting, $730 for heads/intake, $750 for shortblock, $210 for cam/lifters. That's just under $3000 for 400rwhp+.

Not terrible, but of course this is only engine-related. Doesn't count the transmission or all the money I've dumped into suspension/chassis work either.

Thanks guys. I may yank a complete LT1 if I have the time. Otherwise I can get the heads for $50/pair. My 30 over 327 is very fresh and would be a shame to pull it for less than a 20 cubic inch gain (plus this is the fast revving small journal 327). Hence the Lt1 head mod idea. I was afraid I remembered the LT1 head mod on an sbc 1 block was way more trouble than it's worth -- I can get a set of new iron aftermarket heads by the time I had the Lt1 head nightmare figured out. Thanks

Naw, better to spend all the time and effort to get a set of LT1 heads to work...this way, you don't have to pull the engine out.

Plus, from what I've seen, those wrap-around-over coolant lines look cool.
