Oil Presure Sensor New but gauge says below 0??!!
I just put in a new oil pressure sensor after the oil one leaked see ( I ****ING HATE CAMAROS...lol) and now the gauge is pegged at the bottom of the gauge?! Haw can I get it reading again, yes the the wire was hooked up. Do I need to reset the battery or something?! I am stumped.

Thats funny, when I got my 82 TA the oil pressure would stay peged at 60 or what ever, and never moved. I replaced the oil pressure sender, and the ****er never budged. One thing I notice is they sale two types, at least in 82' make double sure you got the right one. Outside of that do what I did to turn the car into a race car. Rip out the dash, through in an metal one take a hole cutter, and blam-o autometer ultra lite never looked so good.

It sure looks like the right one. I want to keep the stock dash.

Get an autometer mechanical oil pressure guage. There's no sending unit, all you use is the brass peice shaped like an L and the copper line from the guage threads onto that. Under 10 bucks for the pod to mount it and you'll know eliminate the worrie's of it being the sensor/stock guage.
I've got that L piece in the garage (im not sure if all camaro's use that same peice) if u need it
I just checked, I've got a liquid filled 100psi, black faced oil pressure guage from autometer(it's not backlit) and the copper tubing for it out in the garage too. The kid I bought my car from said he didn't like the liquid filled cause in the winter it was sluggish or some ****, but I don't need it. If you want it, let me know

no, before i get to moding this car i want to return it as close as I can to stock, I want all the gauges to work too...I used teflon tape on the sensor, could that keep it from being grounded maybe? Also see my CTS posts roo.

is it mechanical? if it is make sure there isnt a leak anywhere. u might have oil all over and just dont konw it. then oil wont get to the gauge.

well yes and now, it is the stock pressure sending unit....mechanical translated into electrical and theat is y i replaced the old sending unit, becuase of an oil leak, there is no more oil leak. PLease see my other posts.

ok, does the oil pressure sensor work the the temp sending unit. Infinite resisance means low reading ( Hense the below 0 from the teflon tape) and low restance mean a high reading. Could the teflon tape be blocking all groundage (
) and causeing no voltage to get though. could i just contact a wire to the threads of the sensor and a ground and leave it at that if that is the problem or should i find another way to seal the sensor in there to keep it from leaking and yet let it ground? I have about 3 layers of teflon on that sensor, would just one do it? could the threads cut through that and still seal.

If the sender is putting out '0' then the fuel pump shouldn't run ? right
Did you try connecting the two wires togather on the sender connector ? to rule out the gauge, or any thing between the gauge, and sending connector.
I couldn't tell you if the system is zero = zero.

Ok, well for some reason it came on by itself, it is displaying accuratly but it is sticky. Could it be purging itself of air? Also there is only one wire not two, it is the bell like thing behind the intake.
I have that thing for my oil pressure gauge as well. Ever since I put my 350 in the gauge will act wierd, when the engine is cold it will read it but it seems a little low, then when the engine warms up it drops to zero. I was thinking it had something to do with the wire connected to the bell shaped canister back there.
does that wire go into the firewall or somewhere else? I am really close to just saying screw it and go with a custom dash setup but its a little too expensive right now

Quick check. Disconnect the sender wire(s) The guage should peg. Oil pressure guage work by high-resistance = high pressure, so floating it will pin it.
There's a good chance that you are experiencing the classic camaro screwed up guage printed circuit. My 85 had it. Most of the time it would stay at/near 0, sometimes it would work normally. I just lived with it. If it is the cluster circuit, the only fix is to replace it.
