Seriously thinking about an LS1 Swap.... w/in
Ok, well either way i am building a motor for my car. I have a goal of making my car run 12's and to look good doing it. Looks aren't my PRIMARY priority. however, i wouldn't mind having a 3rdgen car that could very well make the cover a couple magazines, especially GMHTP....
My question is, has anyone seen this done, priced it out, or know what kind of issues i am up against? where could i find a complete ls1 motor and computer etc? how much would a setup like that go for?
If you have any of the answers to these questions, or simply want to comment, please do. i am looking for some intelligant feedback regard this swap, as i am seriosuly going to consider it.
Thanx!
Steve

Yeah intresting.. been lookin through the archieves and such... seems to me that the mounts are in a different place...
Also it seems the wiring isnt any worse than swapping a tpi motor into a non computer carb car....

Transmission: sure does
There is a guy here that has done the swap, in a yellow iroc.
FWIW, a complete LS1, with harness and no trans goes for about 3 to 5k around here.
You would still need a trans.
as far as the mounts, nothing is in the same location..period.
Its not a hard swap, just time and money consuming I'm sure.

Ok, well i was expecting to pay about 6-7 with a trans, which i would definately go with anyways.
As far as the mounts go, whats is entailed in relocating them? also, what about the fuel system?
The fellow withthe yello iroc that did it, i have found his web page, and am looking at it now...

I'd probably go with the LT1 if I was gonna swap a different engine.. I've read of less complications with the LT1 than the LS1.. I don't know if they're right, or if they're both just as hard to swap in, but I figured I'd throw in my two cents.. LT1's can hit 12's easily too.. they'd be cheaper, so you could spend more on the mods anyway..

i agree, LT1's are cheaper to upgrade, plus the LT1 computers aren't as complex as the LS1's, meaning the LS1 computers monitor alot more stuff then the LT1's. however it would be awsome to say that u have a LS1 third gen.

ls1's can hit 12's with very very minor mods. cam and exhaust will stick you well in the 12's if you can drive. yes, its more expensive, and i've heard its a nightmare to install, but for an all aluminum engine that is probably putting out close to 340horses stock, its worth it in my book. if your going to do something, do it right

You can find a complete LS1 motor and the T56 transmission (sometimes together, sometimes not) on LS1.com's classified section relatively frequently. Browse around for awhile and you'll find both. I know i've seen T56s on there today and LS1 motors within the last few days.

Well i think at this point, i could deifnately go faster for the dollar, but i have to also consider the fact that i could go and make a really nice car out of this, and maybe make a magazine cover or two... we'll see.. it doesnt seem like an impossible swap, just a lot of time and work and money..
