Starter too noisy

I bought a new Summit SUM-G1660A starter about 6 months ago for my LG4. It seems to work fine but i don't like the noise when it starts. It seems very loud. Is this just the way the mini starters sound? Has anyone wrapped their starter with sound deadening material to quiet it down a little?

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts.
thanks, phil

if there is not enough clearance, will that make it louder? I assumed since it was starting the car that it had enough clearance.

Is it a grinding noise or just a loud whirring noise?

I would check the clearance then and re-shim if needed.

A common paper clip is what i use as a tester.
