Cam swap
I have a cam that a friend gave me out of his 350. It was a GM crate 350/330hp (not ZZ4)and it had about 30k miles on it when he took it out. Can this cam fit in my 92 305 TBI and would it give it any significant gains? Could I just take the cam and give it a custom grind and install it in my car? A friend of mine can do the machine work, so I would like to use this cam instead of the 90k mileage stock one that is already in my car. Can anybody help me out here?

if you have a friend that is a cam grinder you ought to be asking him, but since you didn't. yes it'll fit and ought to work, yes if your friend can grind cams he could make you a custom grind.

I know that my friend can make me a custom grind and I know that that will give me better gains, but I just want to know what it would take to install it in my car. I mean like the computer, or anything else or is it a bolt in and go sort of thing.

It will fit, if it's a roller cam. If not, it won't, without chnaging some other stuff. It probably would work fine with the computer. I doubt it would produce significant gains, maybe 10 or 15 HP at most.

That cam is a flat tappet and your L03 has a roller lifter cam. I guess you could put the flat tappet cam in. You will need the lifters, pushrods, and i think the distributor gear. Someone else may know more about this swap than i do. Another problem is the intake, heads and exhaust. These items are very restrictive on the LO3 and will not allow the new cam to do it's job. Exhaust and bigger throttle body and less restrictive air filter are usually the first mods to these engines. This is becuase head and cam upgrades will not respond correctly until these areas are delt with. The biggest problemis the computer. Since it is a speed density system, a custom chip is a must. If you know how to do burn chips, then that's not a problem, but if you don't, there are companies that can do that for you.

It isn't very easy to swap a cam with the block in the car still. Save your money and spend it on something that will give you better performance (Exhaust/ cat-back, gears, carb/intake, etc.). Stick with a roller cam too...
