Dip Stick Tube
The tube was replaced but the dipstick itself was reused. It's much too long for the tube and as a consequence doesn't read correctly. How do I determine the correct dipstick to purchase?

I would imagine that any parts store would sell a dipstick and tube of the correct size for a 350. Thats a very common part. The dealership should be able to give you the correct part number if you call them. I had to actually buy the tube from the dealership, 30 dollars for a freaking tube! The parts store didnt want to carry one for a 305...

Do this... fill the engine with oil, so you know how much is in there, and mark the dipstick where the oil level is.
Why make it harder than it has to be?

Read correctly according to the markings on the dipstick.

Go to a junkyard, find a matching pair (dipstick and tube) that you like, and get it. I didn't pay more than $2 for mine, and it works just fine.
GM changed the dipstick length from time to time. For instance the dipstick on a 1987 350 TPI and a 1992 350 TPI are different lengths (ask me how I know). Always get a matched set. Stuff like that drives me nuts.

I may try the Lokar ED-5001 (Summit LOK-ED-5001).
