Air Flow Research---Experiences?

I am interested in perhaps building up a 400. Scroll down the page...look at all of the different combos they have there.
I was struck by the 550 hp/540 torque 406...
Any thoughts on this combo?
They claim that "Ceralli Competition Engines" offers the package, but I can't seem to find them on the web anywhere.

I think its a little optimistic. Just like AFRs other press releases.
I have a 400 with 10.8 to 1, a set of Brodix Track 1s (that flow almost as well as the AFRs) and a custom hydroller (with more lift and duration than they have) and it does not make 550 hp.
I think about 500 to 520 is a little more realistic.

Its not that simple. A dynos vary 2 percent minimum from one to another. There are also things like vapor pressure, water/oil temps and step rate (the rate the dyno allows the motor to acclerate when the load is on it) to consider.
If these are not held to constistent standards, inflated numbers will result. And since they don't provide these, its anybodies guess how they obtained the results.

2% isnt 50 horses, but besides which, if those are the numbers they got, then they are not optimistic for that combo, they are clearly possible, just so you know i didnt even look at the results, im just going on assumption that those are the numbers they got.

if you say so.PS, desktop dyno says 498 hp with open headers.

"Ceralli Competition Engines" is located in Paterson , NJ.I do not think he has a web site up right now. This guy is out of his tree,he quoted me $5,000 to assemble and dyno my motor last year. This was with all top quality parts.I built it myself, and had it dynoed at a different shop for $1,000,that is machining the block, balancing, blueprinting, and all that...and to dyno the motor.Dont even bother with these guys, nuts!

Well, I was just curious. Very interesting. Who is producing those types of numbers out of a streetable 400?
What heads?

I have NO reason to doubt if it's a fully ported intake, massaged 750 carb, they dyno tested and tuned for optimal cam timing, ignition timing, and carb adjustments,, that it could make 550 in the cell with "uncapped" 1 3/4" dyno headers. That engine with a box stock Victor JR, box stock 750, cam installed per spec card, with headers what fit inside an engine compartment (even uncapped),,, probably wouldn't make 500 horses. It's all in how much they want you to know,, or don't want you to know.

There is a rule of thumb, 1 cfm of intake flow will support 2 hp. So, a head that really flows 280, can support 560 hp. But, you can't do it with pump gas, a hydroller cam and 10 to 1 compression.
These guys have a little more experience with building HP using many combinations (not just AFR ones)

I think too much is made of HP numbers on street engines. Build the engine for max torque over the widest range and let HP fall where ever.
If you do that, you won't worry about a few HP. Your biggest problem will be getting it to hookup.

Re: Air Flow Research---Experiences?
AFR is making 540hp with a 9.5:comp 383 pump gas. With a hydraulic roller XE288HR 236/242 and their new Eliminator 195's all below 6,500rpm. JCB999 every component in the engine has to work with the other parts to make great power. Just throwing a bigger cam at it isn't always gonna help. IMO Brodix Track-I's aren't that great if your gonna spend money on brodix you might aswell save up for the SPX-18* top end kit.
