Is there a 168T starter with straight-across bolt holes?

I have an L98 block that originally had a 153T flywheel. I'm now converting it to auto and I got a free 168T flexplate. As far as I can tell my block isn't drilled for a staggered starter. Were there any starters made for 168T flexplates without the staggered mounting holes?

you can get a gear reduction starter from summit or jegs that is set up for 153 or 168 teeth flywheel.

Yikes, they start at $146. I think I'm better off just finding a 153T flexplate.

Your block (like all blocks since the mid-60s) has the hole you need. You can see it plain as day in your picture.

Look at the big reference hole at the starter pad. Notice the 3 bolt holes all around it. You'll use the one out at the far end of the pad, and the one that's offset from the bell housing flange by an inch or so.

D'oh, you're right. I thought that one big hole was the inside mounting hole. So if I go to the parts store, what kind of vehicle do I tell them I have to get the right starter? It's a one piece RMS if that makes any difference.

Any application at all for a Turbo 350, Turbo 400, or 4-speed will get you the right one... try a 70 Chevelle SS396 with a 400

Should be Hollander # 3510 (or 3510-S if you get it with the solenoid)
