Engine Pics

This is my first post.....so I hope you guys can help me out. My sister's boyfriend took the exhaust manifold out of our 1987 Z28 Camaro. Unfortunately, he only put the manifold back on, and not the carbuerator or any of the vacuum lines or anything else. And she has since broken up with him and he refuses to come back and finish putting the engine back together. Rather than pay someone else to finish the install......my dad would rather complete the job himself. So if any of you guys have detailed pictures of what an engine is supposed to look like all put together, could you email them to me or post them here? Thanks.

Now the interesting part. We aren't sure exactly what type of engine is in there. We thought it was a 1987 Camaro. We knew it had been wrecked, but when we went to go buy an air filter for a 1987 Z28 engine....the filter didn't fit. We ended up buying a filter for a 305, and the thing fit right on. So the pictures that we are looking for are those of an engine with a circular, maybe 2 foot diameter 3 inch tall air filter on top in the center. Except we need pictures of UNDER the air filter. Which we have reason to believe is the 305 engine.

Well dude, i'd buy a book cause by the sounds of it you might be getting in over your head. He had the exhaust manifolds off, and teh carberator? Maybe he had the heads out... What exactly was being done to the motor? Do you just want the vacuum lines? Good luck man

well the car had been sitting for a while. so we got the car back and decided to check and change the thermostat. in trying to remove the thermostat housing, you guessed it, one of the bolts broke. we tried removing the broken bolt the conventional way for about 6 weeks (using a reverse drill i think it's called) and decided just to replace the exhaust manifold. so the only thing that was removed was the exhaust manifold. but to get to the exhaust manifold we had to take the carbeurator off. so yeah.....no heads were removed during the making of this blunder. and now we're just trying to put it back together. and we have a book....if a haynes manual counts.

I'd buy a Chilton's manual, they're generally better. (If you have the money, though, go for a Helms manual.)

1987 Z28's did come with a 305 engine in them, so it's not some strange combination or altered engine you've got.

By the way, the thermostat housing is in the INTAKE manifold, the exhaust manifolds are those (probably) rusty pipes sticking off the sides of the heads.

Now, did he simply remove the carb in tact off the engine? Or did he disassemble the carb? If he took the entire thing apart, then I really suggest you pay somebody to put it back together as they can get somewhat complicated if you've never done it before.

If he just lifted the entire thing off, then get a new gasket (any autoparts store should have it) , and flop it down into place. THe carb is held on by (I believe) four bolts. The smaller openings in the carb face the front of the engine. After the carb's in place, you can pretty much stick a vacuum line anywhere there's a port for one, with a few exceptions.. A vacuum diagram in one of your books should explain where everything goes, as well as where all the throttle linkage goes.

Engine: 357 vortec finished. need tuning
Transmission: Still works
Axle/Gears: need 3.73
If you also look under your hood, there should be a diagram of where all the vacuum hoses attach to.
