Any trans that will bolt to a small block will also bolt to a big block. The simple and cheap way out would be to put a V8 F-body 700R4 behind it.

Your biggest challenge will be exhaust. There's no cheap ways around that AFAIK.

You're going to most likely have to rebuild any 700R4 to handle the power.

You're probably going to need a set of headers made for that swap. I think Hooker makes a set. Your 454's oil pan may/may not clear the crossmember. Then there are the engine mounts. You also have to address fuel delivery, as well as engine cooling(i.e. larger radiator). I've been thinking about doing the same engine swap and I asked about it on the engine swap board. Someone there directed me to an article that was done on the subject. You may want to inquire there, as well.

All the info you need is on my page, but if you have no money, you shouldn't be doing the bbc swap.

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES, it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. I currently have 4.10 gear sets and new series 3 posi carriers for sale for 9 bolts )

Then don't worry about using a 700R4 in the race car. Depending on what type of racing you intend to do, you'll be better off with a Powerglide, TH350 or TH400.

The swap isn't that hard to do. You'll still need some sort of headers unless you want to use factory cast iron manifolds.

i would go with a th400. dependin gon how build your 454 will be, i dont think a th350 is up to it

when the green flag drops the bull$hit stops

Gold 85 Camaro with no motor, pulled the 2.8 to make way for a 350 wich was pulled this summer because a 406 will replace it. The 406 sports a stock bottom end with ARP bolt holding it togeter, flat top hyper pistons. Comp 282 solid cam(.528 lift with 1.6 rockers) Savin up for my Sportsmen 2 heads right now. still Have the perf RPM and 650 DP i used on the 350. Headers and 3inch exhust. Shooten for mid to low 12s next summer

My TH350 is surviving just fine and I abuse it. Don't expect a factory stock one to last. The intermediate sprag is the first thing that will go.

Any thirdgen driveshaft from a 700R4 will work with a TH350 long tailshaft 9". If it's the short tailshaft 6" TH350 then you need a driveshaft from a 82-83 f-body that came with a 200c tranny. You also need the crossmember from the 200c tranny or modify the 700R4 mount so the the mounting perch is 2" forward. You also need the B&M conversion kit.

It's a lot easier to just buy a Spohn torque arm kit for a TH350. It will come with the proper crossmember, the torque arm mounts to the crossmember.

The only other thing you need to modify is the TH350 kickdown cable. The 700R4 TV cable bracket won't work.
