Burned floor, insulation by cat converter?
New one on me.
I dont know how or when this may have happened, but my heater core pissed all over the floor so of course I had to lift the carpet and insulation to clean things up. What I saw after that, never seen before on a thirdgen. I dont have a good camera handy but will tomorrow and I plan on taking some pictures of this nastiness...
Anyway, the floor in about a 1' area is noticably burned as if it got pretty hot. The insulation is also burned, though its more of a discoloration than anything, it still feels like insulation. The underside of the carpet is also discolored in a small ~3" diameter area.
The cats have both been replaced (dual cat car from factory) and who knows, maybe one was clogged and it was running that hot. I also dont know if the floor was heated up during repair or what. I havent had a chance to check the heat sheild either, although I know its there and intact but it may be bent up against the floorboard... that I dont know yet.
Kinda bothers me, last thing I want is the car going up in flames from heat coming off the cat and setting the carpeting on fire.

An overly rich mixture can cause the cat to overheat. I have personally seen a Ford with the carpet on fire from this.
