mixed pistons in same block.

Was at the junk yard yesterday getting some PS brackets. Luckily they finaly had a V8. Of course it was stripped to the bare block and pistons. Funny thing is, the block had 6 flat top pistons with valve releifes and 2 dished pistons (3 & 4 cyl)...is this come crazy secret I dont know about?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Umm, yeah... how to make a motor run like crap with no hope of rectifying it, short of a complete teardown and rebuild....

No wonder it was stripped to the short block, and the short block was left sitting there. I don't think I'd even want anything that was bolted up to that, no telling what other stupidity somebody had victimized it with.

my thoughts exactly, we were in awe of this. I only needed brackets, so it doesnt matter. I need to mechanical parts from it. I should have checked to see what block it was...

My Old Man bought a 78 Chevy truck years ago from a guy he worked with-prestine body with a rebuilt 350-You know where this is going. Went to look at truck and it had a bad knock (sounded more like a miss). Dad and I figured ignition problem because it was missing at all RPMs and had sat for about a year. Long story short, after several nights of working on the iginition and getting nowhere we decided to take the whole thing apart and see what was the matter. Pulled heads and found a cylinder with a domed piston and 7 flat tops! I was f#cking stunned, couldn't believe someone would do something this dumb! Computed compression was 14 to 1, no wonder it was knocking. Put new pistons in it and been driving it to shows every since.

Some people should have a pad lock on thier hoods so they can't work on it!

I have seen that before but it was dome tops, and flat tops.. they had it so that part of the firing order had more compression than the other. Like every other cylinder in the firing order. Not a good idea.. You may want a different block

I imagine the mixed pistons would make a hella vibration due to differences in weight.

BWAHAHAHAHA...man this is good.

Check this out....this guy I work with John, he worked with this guy up in New York..said the guy was a drunkard and cheap as hell. Well he had this old *** motor in a car...some 70's car with an I-6, I dont remember the exact details. Long story short, this guy needed some work on one cylinder...what did he do instead? He pulled the piston and conn. rod for that cylinder off of the crank, and bolted it all back together. When it vibed real bad, he found the cylinder most opposed to that one and yanked it off too....

My grandfather did a simialr thing on a 350.

A rod bearing was going so he pulled the rod and piston out, shoved a piece of tree down the cylinder and pulled the rockers for that cylinder. sold the truck for $1500, said it needed a carb job

I hope that guy driving the new truck loses control and crashes head on into him. What a scumbag.

Well if the guy paid 1500 for that old hunk of junk he was braindead anyways. i dont think that rust bucket would be worth that with a new engine in it.

I dont think he ever heard back from the guy who bought it though, probably drove it till it dropped.
