Emissions testing in San Antonio,TX?
Is the emmissions testing in San Antonio, Texas strict? I have a 383 TPI IROC I'm moving into the area, and wondering what kind of emmissions testing it would see. I'd hate to have to sell it if the test is overly strict. Thanks!

I don't believe San Antonio is in an emissions county. Down here we ain't got emmissions in many counties.. lol. Gotta love that. Harris and Tarrant do I know(that'd be most of Houston, and most of Dallas/FW) I used to live 1 block into Fort Bend county, no emissions. Harris is the bordering county. Not a snowball's chance in hell I would have passed either. If nobody else responds to this, I'll make some calls, see if there's emissions testing in San Antonio, least I can do for a fellow thirdgenner. later.

well suck me sideways!.. dude.. u have THREE IROCS!!!!!.. not fair!
so there you have it... no emissions testing in SA. Good thing my car is still registered to my house in Katy. No emissions, so I'll just drive back there for inspection.

What about safety inspection? Although they don't do a sniffer test, do they check to see if the all the correct smog equipment is in place (catalytic converter, air pump, etc.) ? If not it would fail?

They are supposed to do a visual inspection for emission components, but making friends with the local mechanic has it's advantages. Starting next year every inspection shop in San Antonio will be required to sniff the tailpipe. So get your cars inspected before then.

I checked with the San Antonio DMV, all cars 2-24 years old require safety inspection (including visual for cat.'s, air pump, etc.), then requires emissions inspection in 2002.
That does it for me, I'm going to a '70 454 Z28 and ending the emissions hassles. Anyone want to buy an '89 IROC?
