305 TBI massive oil use

another TBI engine woe, this is in my dads 91 RS, only around 65,000 on it, and it usees ALOT of oil, why i have no idea, i don't want to say its something in the bottom end yet, the only thing i could think of last time was a new PCV valve, what else should i check out before ruleing that something in teh bottom end is bad?

there's not much in the bottem end to cause it to use oil. try the pvc, intake gasket, valve seals, and rings.

Try power braking it in the driveway for 15 seconds at a time for a minute or so and see if there's any oil leak under the car.

I use about 1 quart every 1500 miles, it's the valve seals, I'm just too lazy to replace them.

as far as i know my 87' SC could use valve seals, however i use about a quart and a half or so every 3000 at most, and my car will sometimes smoke at startup, wheras this 305 won't really blow a cloud of smoke, i just noticed some black spots above the exhaust on the back bumper.

also when i looked at the TB last it was FILTY, covered in black junk, so at that point i replaced the pcv valve. and since then he told me the oil useage hasen't gone down much if at all.

Just for reference, my LO3 uses about a pint every 5000 miles. I don't know where it goes because the usage is too slow to track. I don't really care amount that amount anyway.I'm really surprised, too, because it's got 171,000 miles and the former owner ABUSED that engine (overheating on a daily basis, allowing malfunctions to continue to occur, etc...). The only thing he did to take care of it was change the oil every few thousand miles.
