finding a 400 SB in the junkyard is a slim to none chance, 350's are fairly easy to find and dont assume its going to run like a top eather, there not in the junkyard for no reason, noone sends a perfect running car to the yard

Yeah it probley wont run well but I was looking for something to start on. Oh yeah you know what I could do? If I but a 400 block from the junkyard I could trade it in to get a rebuild at a mechanic shop.

Your best bet is to find some guys in the area that work on cars and I guarantee one of them will either A. have one or B. know where you can get one. Ask the guys at your local parts stores. Normally, those guys work on engines and would know where you could get one.

there is a junkyard 15 miles away from where I live and they had a few 400 bare blocks for $150 a piece.they were in great condition but I did't want to build one because at the time I wanted a 327 with camel heads for 300.

Mississippi? man that far. Maybe I can get it shipped over. All the way to Dallas that might just cost more then the block itself. I guess if I find some junkyard around here they might have a deal like that. 150 a piece thats a good deal.

It also has to do with your location. Most of the guys in the midwest got wise to 400s long ago and hit all the vans and station wagons. I hear there are still some around in the tenn/kentucky area.
We don't have any swap meets around here but we do have quiet alot of junkyards with some good chevy and olds motors and fords. The rest are pretty hard to come by but can be found with a little searching.

They are fairly easy to get here. Just this week alone, there has been 4 in the local classifieds from the Northern Va area.
