Is the 700r4 casing identical to the 4l60e casing?

I bought a 4l60e that had a cracked case and I am wondering if their case is the same. I know the 4l60e has the electronic valve body, but the case may be identical. I have a 700r4 case and was gonna swap everything into it. Is it possible?( to sell, not use)

Actually, the internals for the GM SRTA (Remanufactured 700R4) uses the newer internals from the 4L60E and just puts them in an older 700R4 case with the manual valving. Sounds like you want to do the same thing that GM does.

no, the case isn't the same, but the internals to make it go are with the exception of the valve body and input shaft.

What year 4L60e are we talking about? The case on an "e" model is different than that of the 4L60(700). The internal components are similar and you may be able to swap parts. But your problem is a broken case and you will have to find an "e" model case. I know the pump is interchangeable up to a certain year, if you need to know the years that will work, I can get back to you.
By the way, one way to find the year is to look at the shift servo cover on the side of the transmission. It is stamped with the year the tranny was made. You just have to hope no one changed the cover.

Well, its out of a 95 trans am. So the tranny should be a 95. So you are saying the internals cannot be swapped? The only difference I noticed was 2-3 clutch packs have 9 sets instead of 5. THe appear identical internally to the 700r4.What is different about the case??? The holes drilled for the valve body?

BTW, can the internals of a 700r4 be swapped completely in a 4l60E??? I dont see why not, other than the fact that the 700r4 setup will make a little weaker. The input housing is the same as on a 700r4(Called GM and matched part numbers).

You gotta mean the 3-4 clutch pack.

Second gear is done with a band and the forward clutch pack.

You can put the 4L60-E internals into the 700's case, but it won't be a 4L60-E. The case IS different, because of the valvebody. All new passages had to be cast to accomidate, not to mention there is an extra hole for the large electrical plug.

I doubt highly that you can use the 4L60-E's pump though, but most of your hard parts will swap over.
