Can I Run My Engine, With Power Steering Pump Off?
just like the topic says, i took off my power steering pump to get the pulley off and maybe clean it up and install the new march pulley i got for it.
can i just plug off the hoses that were going into it? im not going to be driving it, but it will be a couple weeks before i actually end up putting it back on.
and i got a new pushrod checker so i wanna test that out, and get new pushrods and put them in, and want to be able to start up the engine if i dont have the power steering pump back on by then.

As long as the pump doesn't spin you'll be fine. Otherwise get your rags ready for spraying power steering fluid.

what do you mean as long as the pump doesnt spin? the pump is out of the car, right here beside me almost. as the rest of the motor being polished aluminum id like to clean this up a bit.
i was just wondering if there was a way power steering fluid would come out of the lines that are still attached to the car that i unplugged from the power steering pump.
p.s., the pump is OUT of the car no pump in car.

if you start moving the steering wheel around you might end up with a bit of a mess on the floor.
Their wont be a problem running the engine without the power steering pump. So long as the other acc belts are still on to run the water pump.

Oh ok, wow I totally missed that. Yeah, you should be fine just keep the lines from getting dirt in them. I'd get a second opinion to be sure but I don't recall any vaccum lines running there.

hmm just a rubber hose which goes into a steel line, and a steel like that screws into the back. i have a belt for the water pump alternator and crank shaft pulley. the other belt(power steering, water pump, and crankshaft) is not installed right now.
if its a big deal i will just wait until i install it again.

Not a big deal at all, like i said as long as you have the other belt on to run the water pump youll be fine. you can actually drive it around like that but you had better have strong arms. I drove my car around for a couple weeks with no pump when mine bit the dust.
And yes, be sure to cap off the ports in the steering box, theirs nothing more that the pump hates than a bunch of dirt chewing it inerds up!
