Cam size for 305 that is compatible with stock computer

I am about to rebuild my little 305 and wondered how big of a cam can be installed that will still function properly with the stock computer chip? I know the age old saga of drop a 350 but I think I want to keep her pretty stock but give it a few extra HP with a better cam and lifter set. I just had the injectors all professionally cleaned and flow matched so I do not want to buy another set of injectors to swap to a 350. Thanks
Tony

Can you tell me a little about this cam. Does it wake the car up a lot or a little? Anyone have this cam installed and what do you think about it. Thanks

I guess it would depend on what cam it was replacing. If it were replacing a stock 86 lb9 cam it would wake it up a lot, if it were a l69 cam it would probably be only a little.

replacing a stock lg4 carb'd cam. I have switched over to a TPI set-up but still have the lg4 cam in it. Considering the world s/r torquer heads when I do this, I think the heads with the good cam will give it a good boost in power for my daily driver. I have 3.23 gears and a full 3" exhaust with edelbrock TES headers with 3" in/out catco catalytic converter.

At first I thought this was gonna be a low buck deal, but now........ I gotta say save the money on the world heads get a 350 core short block and a set of 22 lb injectors. I even have a factory set I'd let go of out of an 87 L98.

Suppose I go the 350 route, The TPI computer is the same 7165 for the 86-89 TPI 305 and 350. I verfied this but I am guessing the PROM is different or are the tolerances that close that they use the same prom in the 7165? I would need a different knock sensor for the 350, and the 22lb injectors - thats it?

The proms are different. To get the best tune you should get the 22's, prom and knock sensor but a lot of people have gotten by with the 305 prom running a 350 with 22 lb injectors.
