Cant go past 1000RPM!

HI, i am still tinkering with my car till I get some money and replace everything

Today I tried to do a burnout, so I held my brake and pressed gas. It stayed at 1000RPM. Than I floored it and it still stayed at 1000RPM. What the heck would that be??? (I hope it aint the tranny).

Than wehenver I start mycar it would rev up to 1700 first, than drop to 800-900 where it idles in park.
Same thing happens when it goes from gear to Park.

What could this be????

Oh, and it hesitates anywhere between 20-30mph. If its under its good, if it over its good.

Anyone????

Are you saying it's at 1000 when you are powerbraking?

yup. I hold the brake and give it gas! ****, I floor it and it still stays at 1000RPM.

I used to be able to do some serious burnouts, but now something is holding the whole car at 1000RPMS (other than brakes I hope)...

Does it miss or break up under heavy loads?

It boggs down under intial load. Than its fast above 30mph.
Just has no juice when I go off the line. Than it just picks up better.
This car had serious low end. It used to lift the front end when I went on it.
Now I can floor it from the stand still and she will go slow and than pickup like crazy.

The 1000 rpm is what i noticed when I try burning out!
I am sure the brakes are holding it some, but shouldnt hold it that much.

Also, sometimes if I mess with timing, or distributor it would drive good for few minutes and back to messing up.

At that point there is no burnout and I stay at 1000RPM no matter what I do.

Double check timing. Also check the fuel system...broken/leaky injectors flooding the motor at low rpms is a possibility, also a faulty FPR. When its able to burn the excess fuel it will cause a sudden kick in power.

The timing is 4* advanced and it seems to work a lot better there.
I do idle rich, but when I give it gas it will lean out big time!
Than it would pick up again.

My whole ignition is new, including 90% of sensors too.

I will be getting new ECM in today, and the fuel pump is sitting right next to me as we speak.

Have you checked the fuel pressure regulator? Test fuel pressure with the vacuum line on it and then off it, pressure should go up. Also pull the vac line and look/smell for gas, sign of a ruptured diaphragm, pulls fuel into the intake through that line.

Should definitely check fuel pressure before doing the pump, it's not the quickest job out there to try and do... Pressure testers are easy to come across, Autozone sells one for $25 or so but it's a piece of **** and wont hold up for much more than a month. : /

Thanks for your help Nixon1 I appreciate it.

However, my TBI is re-built with a new preassure regulator.

I think that my computer has something to do with it, because the bogging is always at the same spot.
However, since I can get a great deal on a new computer and a pump I thought I do both. (150 for both new ECM, TPI pump, strainer... not bad? all AC delco!)
So I thought I replace the computer since I heard it ticking right after my problems started.
Also, a new fuel pump wont hurt to replace.
Than I would have everything new except the bottom of the engine!!!

However, I am just happy that my tranny is performing good and I don't think my converter is fing up, since the tranny shifts great, and downshifts like new!!!

That's a hell of a deal on those parts. Either way, keep us updated bro.
