Code 36... Where is the MAF burnoff relay you peeps talk about?

Hey, I started my car to come home from work when I got a code for the first time with my car. It's code 36. I searched the postings around here and find that the most common cause is the MAF burnoff relay. My question is where is it located? I don't want to unplug something that I'm not sure of. My Haynes manual did not say anything about where it was.

Thanks!

I searched a bit more but came up with various different locations that the burnoff relay could be. From what I gathered, it's on the driver's side on the firewall.

I looked at the location and there are 4 relays. Two of them are the same. Which ones are right? I noticed that someone posted a pic in one of the posts which is no longer hosted. Anyone have that pic?

Thanks.

Guess I'll just replace both of them...

The only thing that happened recently was that the heater control valve blew up spraying coolant all over the passenger side of the engine. That happened about a week ago... Do any of you think that may have contributed to the code 36?

Well, I replaced both relays and the light stayed on. I went ahead and disconnected the battery and connected it again. The light is gone now. This may sound stupid... Does that mean the problem is fixed now? Or the ECM now thinks that the problem it had before to be the 'norm' by scanning everything and assuming it's correct?

Please help!

I have an 88 IROC, and the MAF burnoff relay is on the driver's side firewall, the one closest to the fender. The replacements are cheap from the nearest car parts store, it's the same kind of relay that's used for the fans.

Sometimes it's necessary to reset the computer to get the light off. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes.

This happens to my car every 18 months or so. The dealer charges over to $100 to replace the relay. I can do it myself in 5 minutes, and the relay is about $15. Why are dealers such ripoffs on repairs? Sheet, they charge about $30 for the relay, a half hour of shop labor, and a computer diagnostic charge of about $50.
