How Much HP/TQ with this setup?
How Much HP/TQ with this setup?
L98, Edelbrock base, Semi AS&M runners, ported plenum, Hooker supercomp shorties, 3inch Dynomax Cat back, High Flow Cat, AFPR, stage 1 chip?
Can anyone give me an estimation for a stock L98 with the above mods?

i'd say about 25 or so over stock. not sure what stock is since you didn't bother to mention what year the L98 (which you did mention that part twice though) is. when asking a question it's easier to give all the information.
it's an 87. I'll tell ya one thing, if 25hp is all you gain with that set up, then I'm ripping the L98 right out and slapping in a nice carbed ZZ4. No reason to waste 3k on heads, cam, exhaust, comp mods, multiple FI mods etc just to get the hp I can out of a nicly worked 350 or 383 brand new.
This is my first experiance messing with fuel injection, I've been driving 60's muscle my entire life. I'm just dissapointed with my cars performance and how much it would cost to get it moving. I had my Malibu conv running mid 13's for under 500 bucks into my engine.

To be fair I'd guess 25 is a little conservative, but I doubt the numbers are up to where you'd like them either. If you want it to move like 60's muscle....build it like 60's muscle
Lotta cam, lotta cubes, lotta carb, and lotta compression. ------------------

I'm just glad I asked before I went out and started purchasing everything. The car came with the stage 1 chip, high flow cat and 3inch exhaust, so right now I have nothing into my engine.
One quick question, how about a set of AFR's and a nice came on an L98? Then I can modify the TPI after the fact. What hp would a stock TPI L98 have with AFR 195's and a very nice cam?

Still not enough. The TPI is just too big a restriction. You'll never get it to adaquately feed a hi-po motor..the runners are just too long.
However, I know a guy with a stock L98 shortblock, with mild cam, AFR 190's, and a miniam running 12 flats on a daily driver-level streetable car. There isn't anything wrong with an L98 shortblock...it's just like every SBC with 2 bolt mains cast crank and cast slugs.

it's not just the hp numbers you need to be concerned with. it's overall performance. opening up the exhaust end and intake is a great start, but with stock cam and heads your not going to move that much more air anyway. it is a great start though.
Guess I was just a little dissapointed, thats all. I've always looked at building an engine like baking a cake, you need the right ammount of ingrediants. 10 pounds a suger and 1 ounce a flower ain't gonna make a good cake, same goes for mods on an engine. It's just that the mods for a TPI engine are just a little more pricy and and many more things need to be done.
I've had my Malibu since I was 16. I slapped on some nice double hump heads, a crane cam, edelbrock performer RPM manifold and holley 650 double pumper and the car was a screamer. Total cost, 500 bucks and that also included a B&M stall and shift kit.
I'm just trying to figure out the order of doing things, while getting a little bit more performance in the mean time. I really like the benefits of fuel injection, so I guess I'll deal with the cost.
I figure I'll knock out the heads and cam first since I just found a good deal on them and then reap the full benefits when I can afford to upgrade the TPI, which shouldn't be long.
Thanks for the info guys
