87 305TPI - Missing in Drive issue.
Hi all,
I have this really annoying problem with my IROC that has been happening for some time now, but just keep forgetting to post about it.
Here goes....
Drive car from Cold in D. ( Not using the Megashifter at all during the journey to manual shift ), car drives sweet and does not miss a beat from point A to B.
Drive car from Cold in D, once warmed up use the Mega Shifter to have some fun. Great... Settle back down into D. At light throttle and i mean maybe only 5mm of thorttle the engine will Miss quite badly. Apply slightly more throttle say 10mm missing goes away. So it only happens if you just touch the throttle.
I have also noticed that if i crawl along in D on very light throttle to cause missing, if i pop it into 3 the missing stops. Pop into D missing starts again.
Its really wierd. I have done a full reset of the ECU but it makes no difference. At first i thought it was the TPS sensor worn at the idle position as this is very common. But i can stop the missing by shifting into 3 @ 20mph. But moving into D @ 20mph causes missing to start again.
Bizzare eh ?? And of course this only happens if the MegaShifter is used to Manual shift. If i use D for the entire journey there is no problem.

doesn't sound like missing. sounds like the tranny is trying to shift into overdrive. with a mega shifter, d is the overdrive position. if i am not going over 55 mph, i leave my shifter in the 3 position on my megashifter. this would explain why being in 3 stops the symptoms. it isn't letting the tranny go into overdrive at all. it shouldn't be trying at that early of a speed anyway but sometimes they will.

At light throttle she goes into overdrive at 40mph exactly.
Its definately missing, you can hear it through the exhaust.
