The LT1 and L98 cams have approx the same duration (depending on year) but the LT1 cam has more lift. Both versions will fit with the stock heads and valve springs. The ZZ4 cam has too much lift and will not work unless you get new springs and possibly machine work to the valve guides, too.

The LT1 cam is a great choice. It is easy to RPOM tune and has great manors on the street.

I see you also asked about where to buy a set of gears. I recommend Randys Ring and Pinion.

They have good prices, good parts and good service. I recommend the Yukon gear sets they sell. They are a good gear that isnt noisy at all (my only recommendation is buy a seperate solid pinion spacer rather than using the supplied crush sleeve - failed on me and ruined a set of gears).

Yeah, get the LT1 cam, but go ahead and do the H-11 Tool steel springs, I did at 200k, well worth the $$$. Also, on the LT1 cams the dowel pin in the front of the cam will have to be shortened as well. In the LT1 the dowel pins is longer in order to engage the water pump. But its no big deal. I have the LT1 cam in my car with 1.6 rr's and the H-11 springs now for 66k miles and all is well.
