Engine noisy! Any ideas?
Ok,
I have a 89 GTA 5.7 61k on the odometer.
I bought it from the original owner and noticed when I go up a hill with the gas pedal to the floor or take off from a light with the gas pedal to the floor, I get the wonderful growl and then at about 30-40 mph I get a crackling sound from the motor. It goes away after about 2 or 3 seconds.
I just had a complete tune-up Plugs, wires, etc. Car runs better but this cracklin sound is still there. Any ideas?? Keep in mind, if it makes any difference, the plugs, cap & wires that were that were replaced were original equipment.
Please help!!

I'm gonna take a random guess, so I could be wrong...
The noise only occurs when the drivetrain is under the greatest strain. Maybe somehow the U-joints are worn out, but only make noise when the rear end geometry changes just right...

Lean air fuel ratio.(clogged injectors, low fuel pressure.... or excessive ignition advance.
At what rpm (range) does it ping?
