I hope it's the oil! Need another opinon.

Earlier today I was driving to school when I heard this ticking noise. At first I thought it was my exhaust pipes ratteling. I then looked at my oil pressure and realized that it was at 30psi. I just put a new 350 in and it usually is at 60psi+.
I dropped the car into neutral and pulled off the highway. That's when I started to feel the engine start to get ready to seize. Right then I shut off the engine and watched the smoke rise.
Ok, drama aside, I look under the hood and realize that the oil is really low but when I tryed to crank it, it turned over but struggled real bad. Almost sounded like my battery was dying. I put in a quart of 10w-30 which I had nearby but it didn't fix anything.
So my question is this: Is my engine toast? Could it of been something else besides the oil and if it is the oil do I just fill it back up and start the car?
Thanks for the help!

What kinda smoke? Coolant smoke? Maybe a head gasket blew and your motor was starting to hydro lock up.

It wasn't coolent smoke (i've had an engine seize on me for overheating). It was definitly oil smoke, it has that smell. Also there was no fluids sprayed under the hood.

Where was the smoke coming from? What RPM did you have 30 psi oil pressure at? Have you checked the oil level and/or topped it off? Have you verified the pressure with a mechanical gauge?

The smoke came out of the passenger valve cover (I don't have a breather on it). The rpm was probably around 3000 when the I realized the pressure dropped. I put oil in it today and got the engine to run but it makes this horrible clanking sound. What do could that noise be?
