Not much to it. Pull the old one out, drive the new one in.

Thats it, Ive always liked to put a bit of RTV on my freeze plugs before I install them.

I use RTV too. It's not strictly necessary, but it doesn't hurt.

Get a brass plug if you can. No worries about rust through. As long as you're pulling one side, you may want to peek at the others for signs of corrosion and potential leakage.

You're lucky it's in the front. The pair in front of the flywheel are no fun. You should be looking for 1-5/8" plugs (Dorman 565-030).

realy isn't much of a proper way and i'm not sure where the freeze plug that you are deeling with is at but, a thin chunk of wood to produce all the pressure over the whole body of the core plug and a slight tap of a hammer should drive it in. Make sure the core plug hole in the block is clean first of course, Take some sand paper to it and clean it as best you can. Then tap away till you get it in. Just be careful if it's brass it'll bend easy i'm sure.

A socket big enough to fit inside the cup with about 1/16" clearance all around works well.

must be a big bur on it or such. Look at the hole closer and take a dremel to it if it's burred badly and you have room.

Just keep trying. They're supposed to be tight, that's what keeps them from leaking and falling out.

If your lucky you might find somebody with an installer for them. I bought a kit after messing with one on a thunderbird. PITA using a socket and hammer.

I thought the easiest way was with a torch. Heat it up, then pour water or oil on it and it should slide out.
