o2 sensor
ok when im driving at a constent speed my engine lite comes on like say im going 55 it will come on but when i slow down it wil go away i was woundering if its my o2 sensor and also when i floor it it seems like its searching it goes for a second then stops then goes and so forth and i sort of smell some gas when i roll the window down.

can you check even when its not on or will i have to drive the car till it comes on then check it

ECM memory stores any codes - they're in there, you just have to coax them out.
A paperclip bent into a "U" will do just this. Bridge the A and B terminals of the ALDL (picture courtesy of Vader):

The SES will flash the codes.

The ECM stores trouble codes for something like 50 starts after being set.
AutoXray calls them current and history, or something to that effect. In other words, if the light is on, that's a current code; light off, it'll be in history.
