I need your guy's opinion. I'm doing a cam swap soon, and an HSR swap in the summertime.

First off, can you run a Hot Cam with the stock l98 heads, or is machining required to get valve clearance? What kind of gains have you guys seen with your Hot Cam swaps?

Second, would this be a nice cam to compliment the HSR intake along with some porting work on my stock L98 heads?

Are you planning on changing the torque converter?

From what I've heard, the HOT cam will not work with a stock torque converter.

Thanks for the info.

Can anyone else add to this or confirm this?

It'll work with it just not well, there are better choices out there.
But no, the cam won't work on those heads unless you do some machining.

What sort of numbers would you recommend for a cam for a 350 that will have an HSR by the summer time and a chip burnt with stock (ported) L98 heads?

I have the GM LT4 HOT cam in my L98 with the stock torque converter and it works fine. I kept the stock torque converter since it's my daily driver. It idles at around 650-700 rpm. It took some tuning with the fuel curve to get the idle. I think I can get it to idle smoother and lower (maybe 600) if and when I get the spark advance tuned better. I didn't want to go with a higher-stall TC in order to keep the civilized daily-driver manners in stop-and-go traffic and trying to optimize fuel consumption while achieving a streetably-awesome hi-perf output level.

I have a similar cam in my 305 TBI. Worked just fine with the stock 2,000 stall. I went to a 2,800 rpm stall for more punch, I still have the lockup for cruising.
