305tbi question

i have a 305 tbi i found to put into my 91rs that had a 3.1. my question is, does the 305 have anywhere close to the power that a tpi engine has? how many horses does the 305 have? i want a cruiser but also want to kick it down hard if needed to! also how does the infamous nos work with it? thanks all

I take it that you are a NewB, but that is OK. The L03 makes great low-mid range torque for what it is. They can be pretty quick when in a decent tune. A 5spd L03 with a good driver can take an automatic LB9 305 TPI with a bad driver. The L03s come with a crappy gear ratio though, chances are your 3.1 car has lower gears in it though.

NOS is a brand name not a part. Nitrous Oxide can be applied to any engine.

The L03 makes 170 FWHP @ 4,400 and 255 ft/lbs @ 2,800. With some simple, inexpensive mods you can push that to about 200 FWHP and 280 ft/lbs.

I'm sorry. Just thought this was another teenage kid post. Seems that most of them call nitrous, NOS and it just bugs me. A 100 HP WET shot would probably work fine, if you retarded the timing a few degrees.

The lower gears are a speculation. I do know that my 2.8 GMC Jimmy had 3.73s in it. I think the V6 F-bodies of that time period came with around 3.23s instead of the typical 2.73 or 3.08:1 that the L03 came with. You will get a better launch with the lower gears provided you don't fry the tires. 3.08s to 3.73s in my Van dropped the 60' times by about two tenths.
